Culver Military Academy 160-pound wrestler Edmond Hogan ’14 (Itasca, Ill.) will take the next step toward a state championship when the State Wrestling Finals kick off Friday at Bankers Life Fieldhouse in Indianapolis.

Hogan, who has a 41-4 overall record, will begin his trek with a 6 p.m. Friday first round match against Nick Borta (36-1) of North Montgomery. Hogan will need to win Friday to qualify for a spot on the podium. Saturday’s wrestling will begin at 9:30 a.m. with the quarterfinal matches.

This is Hogan’s first trip to the state finals. He qualified by finishing third at the Merrillville Semistate on Feb. 15. He had to wrestle four matches to qualify, winning the first by a pin, taking a major decision in the second, losing the third match by a 5-4 decision, and taking a 7-4 decision in the consolation round.

Two other CMA wrestlers reached the semistate. Noah Trevino ’15 (Gary, Ind.) lost his first round match to the eventual 138-pound champion. David Zajac ’14 (Avon Lake, Ohio) lost his first round match at 152 pounds. The top four wrestlers in each weight class advanced to the state tournament.
