Two student-athletes have been recognized as the August-September Athletes of the Month.
CGA: Reese Wilson
As a member of the Culver Girls Academy golf team, Reese Wilson ’21 (Chicago) compiled an 18-hole scoring average of 75, with two rounds under par this season. Wilson was the medalist in every regular season match for Culver. During that run, Reese was acknowledged as the Indianapolis Star Athlete of the Week. She finished as the LaPorte Sectional runner-up and paced the Eagles to the team title.
She finished as the individual runner-up at the Lafayette Regional and leading the team to a second place finish, which resulted in a State Finals. CGA finished ninth overall and Reese was 10th individually.
“Reese is not just a young lady who plays golf for fun – she is a golfer through and through. Reese is a student of the game and understands how to make shots happen to lower her score,” Coach Karen Rudd said. “She has an impeccable short game and says putting is her favorite part of each contest. Although she is not the longest hitter on the team, she can out play everyone around the green. The golf team is blessed to have her and eagerly anticipates the growth of her skills over the next four years.”
CMA: Carson Bellman
Carson Bellman ’18 (Bremen, Indiana) is one of three football team captains, leading the Eagles to a 5-1 record. He is leading rusher, averaging over eight yards-per-carry. He also leads the Eagles with seven touchdowns.
As the punter, he has kicked 14 times, placing five inside the opponent’s 15 yard line. Defensively, Carson leads the team with two interceptions and is one of the leading tacklers.
“Carson’s extraordinary work ethic in the off-season has positioned him for an outstanding senior season,” Coach Andy Dorrel said. “He is willing to play whatever position we ask, which, to date, has been five different offensive and defensive positions. Carson truly embodies the ‘Eagles for Brothers’ mantra as he is the consummate team player.
