Trevor Weaser ’10 and his Northeastern University varsity eight teammates came within inches of winning the Ladies’ Challenge Plate final at the 164th Henley Royal Regatta. The Huskies set a three-quarter mile mark record of 2 minutes, 55 seconds before being passed by Great Britain’s number two national crew in the final few meters.
The race set a Henley record of 5:58, which was five seconds faster than the mark, which had stood for 18 years. Northeastern reached the finals after defeating the Great Britain Under-23 national team by three and one-half lengths. More on the race.
Weaser’s trip to the Henley Royal Regatta also fell on the 70th anniversary of 1943 Culver Military Academy’s varsity eight team that finished the season undefeated. That team came together to race at the Henley Veterans Regatta on July 8, 2000. More on the Spirit of ’43.
