Two Culver student-athletes were recently recognized as the December Athletes of the Month.
CGA: McKinley Hoff
McKinley Hoff, a sophomore from Anchorage, Alaska, has played a considerable role as a goalie for the CGA Prep hockey team. Her strong performances against some of the best teams from Illinois, Michigan, and Ohio have garnered attention from a variety of NCAA Division 1 programs, including the Ivy League schools.
Hoff (photo above) had nearly 40 saves against Shattuck St. Mary. According to Coach Ashley Paulson, “McKinley has been quite strong for us in net this season. She has an unreal work ethic, working daily to become a stronger player and teammate. She is routinely willing to do more drills and take more shots during practice.”
CMA: Jack Yan
Jack Yan, a third classman from Shanghai, China, is a member of the men’s prep fencing team. Yan’s blistering season in sabre has led the overall team to a 14-1 record. The sabre squad completed its season with a perfect record.
Jack is currently ranked No. 1 in the USA Midwest Under-17 Circuit with Gold Medal results from the St. Louis and Peoria circuit events. In conference play, he has finished first at the Lowell Invitational, second at the Catholic Memorial Invitational, and third at Culver’s Midwest Open.
According to Coach Matt Cameron, “Jack is a standout scholar-athlete on CMA’s undefeated sabre season. His infectious energy, positivity, and sheer determination to bring-his-best has brought about solid results to date. As the Eagles head into the post-season, he will undoubtedly be on the frontlines as we forge our path to victory.”
