Two student-athletes were recently recognized as the March Athletes of the Month.
CGA: Jessica Turner
Jessica Turner ’18 (Evansville, Indiana) scored 27 points on 22 goals and five assists in the first five games of the CGA Varsity Lacrosse season. A two-way midfielder, Jessica’s shooting accuracy is at 71 percent and she has not missed a free-position shot to date.
She also has averaged more than five draw controls and five ground balls per game and is the most powerful offensive threat on this year’s team. Jessica is a nominee for the Indianapolis Star Girls’ Lacrosse Player of the Year and will be honored in Indianapolis later this month.
She will continue her playing career at the University of Detroit Mercy. According to Coach Debi Trau, “Jessica is always early to practice, working with game intensity, and conditioning or refining her stick skills on the wall. She is the consummate athlete.”
CMA: Ethan Brittain-Watts
As one of the captains of the CMA Varsity Basketball team, Ethan Brittain-Watts ’19 (Indianapolis) helped guide the Eagles on their miraculous state-title run. Ethan finished the season averaging 14.8 points per game.
His top performances came during the tournament run when he scored 28 points in the semi-state game against No. 1 New Castle and 20 points in the state championship game against No. 3 Evansville Bosse. The Eagles finished the season with a record of 23-6 and ranked fourth in Class 3A. For his efforts, Ethan was acknowledged as an Indiana Junior All-Star.
According to Coach Mark Galloway, “Ethan clearly played a significant role for us throughout the playoffs, but what most people don’t see from a distance is his concerted work ethic and commitment to his teammates. He routinely works at his game, putting himself in a position to allow for our success but also his own marketability as a student-athlete.”
