Culver Military Academy’s prep hockey team split with Shattuck St. Mary’s over the weekend. The games featured the top two prep teams in the nation in both the USA Independent Prep Schools and USA Midget Tier 1 18U rankings. On Saturday, CMA defeated Shattuck, 5-4, which included this celebration (above) after Jack Surowiec’s goal in the second period. The assist was credited to Ryan Patrick. Sunday, CMA dropped a 4-2 decision, which included an empty net goal by Shattuck in the final seven seconds of the game.
The U16 hockey team also played Shattuck, tying 3-3 on Saturday and dropping a 4-2 decision on Sunday. The national matchup drew a standing room only crowd, several newspapers, college coaches, and local television station WSBT to Henderson Ice Arena Saturday and Sunday.
