Autumn Baumgartner ’21 (Argos, Ind.) will be swimming in three events at the IHSAA state finals in Indianapolis this weekend.

Baumgartner qualified in the 50- and 100-yard freestyle events and as member of the CGA 400-yard freestyle relay team at the Warsaw sectional Saturday. Other members of the relay team are Avery Bolden ’19 (Chicago), Amina Shafeek-Norton ’20 (Charlotte, N.C.) and Kylie Dehner ’20 (Plymouth, Ind.). Mary Cate Wright ’20 (South Bend, Ind.) is the alternate.

The girls swimming state final preliminaries will begin at 6 p.m. Friday, with the consolation and final rounds starting at 1 p.m., Saturday. The state meet is conducted at the Indiana University Natatorium, 901 W. New York St., Indianapolis. Saturday’s rounds will be streamed live on

Baumgarter won the 50 with a time of 23.67 seconds and the 100 with a time of 51.97. The 400 relay team finished in 3:45, which was nearly 12 seconds faster than the second place team.

In order to advance, swimmers had to win their respective events. Divers had to finish in the top four to advance to the diving regional at Penn High School, held on Tuesday. Isabelle Ahlenius ’20 (Knox, Ind.) finished second at Warsaw but her season ended at the regional.

Seven wrestlers are headed to the semi-state Saturday

CMA wrestlers continue to set records as they prepare for the East Chicago semi-state on Saturday. After advancing 10 wrestlers out of the Plymouth sectional, CMA took nine to the Penn regional, where seven, including four champions, qualified for the semi-state.

The top four qualifiers in each weight advance to Saturday’s tournament. Regional champions include Brennen Cernus ’22 (Pickerington, Ohio) at 106 pounds, Trey Finnearty ’20 (Circleville, Ohio) at 120, Braden Welch ’22 (Ashland, Ohio) at 160, and Andrew Donahue ’22 (Powell, Ohio) at 182. Eli Pack ’21 (Etna, Ohio) at 170 and Jacob Trefren ’19 (Culver) at 195 finished third. Joe Kuhl ’19 (Elmhurst, Ill.) finished fourth at 220. The seven regional qualifiers and four champions are also new team records.

The semi-state meet will be held at East Chicago Central High School, 1100 W. Columbus Drive, East Chicago, Ind. Wrestling will begin at 9 a.m. (CST) Saturday. Admission is $10 for an all-day pass and $8 for the final session. is to carry the semi-state for a fee.
