Former Culver Military defenseman Ryan Suter ’03 and his USA Hockey teammates will begin their pursuit of a gold medal Thursday morning at the Sochi Olympics.
USA will face Slovakia at 7:30 a.m. (EST). That will be followed by a 7:30 a.m. game on Saturday against the host Russians and another 7:30 a.m. contest against Slovenia on Sunday. This is Suter’s second Olympics, having earned a silver medal in the 2010 winter games.
Suter plays for the Minnesota Wild in the National Hockey League. He played at Culver before joining USA Hockey’s National Team Development Program. He is the first CMA player to be selected in the first round of the NHL draft. He was picked seventh overall by the Nashville Predators
Suter’s hockey roots run deep. He is nephew of NHL great Gary Suter ’82 and the son of Bob Suter, who played on the 1980 “Miracle” team at Lake Placid.
