Tom Stoppard’s Tony award-winning play Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead will be presented by the Acting Company on the Eppley Auditorium stage at 7:30 p.m., Sunday, April 6. The Company has been given Stoppard’s personal approval to tour his landmark play.

The presentation is the final piece of the 2013-14 Huffington Concert Series at Culver Academies. The play centers on the misadventures and musings of two minor characters in Shakespeare’s Hamlet – Rosencrantz and Guildenstern. The characters are childhood friends of the Danish prince and the play is structured as the inverse of the Shakespeare classic. The two characters spend the entire play totally confused, lacking such basic information as their own identities.

As Rosencrantz and Guildenstern passively follow their predetermined route, the play focuses on the themes of free will vs. determinism, the search for value, and the impossibility of certainty. The play includes many of Hamlet’s most notable scenes but from a new, comedic viewpoint.

Tickets for the Sunday, April 6 performance are available through the Culver Academies Theatre Department. People interested in purchasing tickets may do so by calling (574) 842-7058 or emailing Marsha Coven (Marsha.Coven@culver.org). Tickets are also available at the Steinbrenner Performing Arts Center Box Office from 1-4 p.m. Monday through Friday, and the Eppley Auditorium Box Office one hour before the performance.
