The following student-athletes were honored as Culver Academies’ November Athletes of the Month.
CGA: Gabrielle Slykas
Gabrielle, a junior from Frankfort, Ill., has played a vital role in rebuilding the CGA Prep hockey team. As a defenseman, her efforts helping keep the puck away from our goalie are proving to be the key to the team’s success.
Notable performances this season include against nationally-ranked HoneyBaked, as well as the team’s semi-final finish at the Bauer Selects tournament in Detroit. According to Coach Jackie Kooistra, “Gabrielle’s work ethic on and off the ice is impeccable. She is the type of athlete our team hopes to emulate. She gives 100 percent effort in every drill, practice, shift and game.”
CMA: Jackson Pierson
Jackson, a second classman from Zionsville, Ind., is a member of the Prep Hockey team. Pierson has played an integral role in the Prep team’s ability to move up the national rankings where they sit at No. 9.
Pierson currently leads the team with eight goals and six assists. His offensive performance has allowed the Eagles to remain extremely competitive against one of the most demanding prep schedules in the country.
According to Coach Palmer, “Jackson is a quiet leader who is a threat to score every shift he is on the ice. He routinely comes to practice and games ready to play. As a result, his passion to become a better hockey player and teammates is contagious.”
