Six Culver Academies vocalists will be traveling to New York City in February to sing in Carnegie Hall as part of the Honors Performance Series.
Seniors Cory Andrzejewski (Plymouth, Ind.) Katie Giacobbe (Ormond Beach, Fla.), Alexandra Jeffirs (Argos, Ind.), Leonardo Rodriguez (Acapulco, Mexico), and juniors Jesus Mancha Navarrete (Monterrey, Mexico) and first runner-up Neri Min (Seoul, South Korea) will spend five days preparing and rehearsing under the direction of master conductors. They will also have the opportunity to perform before invited representives from collegiate and professional music programs.
Dr. Eph Ehly will serve as this year’s performance conductor. Interestingly, Culver students sang under the direction of Dr. Ehly during the 2011 Mozart International Choral Festival in Salzburg, Austria.
While in New York, the students will also experience the sights and performance arts in New York, including going to see a performance of one of three Broadway productions: Pippin, Phantom of the Opera, or Lion King.
Carnegie Honors program alumni include vocalists Callie Wilkinson ’11; Katrina Weil ’12; Mary McKinnis ’13, Jorge Sugich ’14, Hayne Bae ’15, and instrumentalists Joy Shen ’13, and Matthew Moody ’14. Jeffirs also performed last year as a junior.
