Six Culver Academies faculty members were awarded endowed chairs during the recent academic convocation. An endowed chair is funded through gifts from Culver alumni and donors.

Head of Schools John Buxton said it “is both an honor and a ‘bestowed trust’ given to a faculty member who has a growth mindset and a student-centered learning approach. The chairholder can ‘dream big’ and pursue a significant academic project with financial support that will benefit his or her department and the Academies.”

Chairs are selected by a sub-committee consisting of two department chairs who are chairholders, in addition to faculty representatives from each academic department.

Honor were: Jennifer Cerny, senior instructor, Humanities – Frank Smathers Jr. Chair of English; Gabrielle DiLorenzo, senior instructor, Modern and Classical Languages – Julia B. Fleet Chair of Teaching; Nancy McKinnis, master instructor in Fine Arts – Richard W. Freeman Chair of Leadership; Chris Carrillo, Ph.D., senior instructor, Science and Department Chair; Mark Prochaska, Ph.D., senior instructor in Science – Almore H. Teschke Memorial Endowed Chair; and Phillip Cook, senior instructor in Science – Ralph Dittman Chair of Science.
