The Culver Military Academy football team will be seeing some new faces in the sectional tournament for at least the next two years. On May 4, the Indiana High School Athletic Association announced the sectional assignments for eight sports, with Culver’s biggest changes coming in football.
Starting this fall, the Eagles will play in Class 3A Sectional 26 with Fairfield, Garrett, Heritage, Jimtown, Lakeland, Tippecanoe Valley, and West Noble. The Eagles played Lakeland in the playoffs several years ago, but have never played Heritage (located in Monroeville) or Garrett (Garrett).
The assignments for the other seven IHSAA sports are:
Baseball – Class 3A Sectional 19: CMA, Jimtown, Mishawaka Marian, New Prairie, South Bend St. Joseph, and South Bend Washington.
Boys Basketball – Class 3A Sectional 19: CMA, John Glenn, Jimtown, Marian, New Prairie, and St. Joseph.
Girls Basketball – Class 3A Sectional 19: CGA, John Glenn, Jimtown, Marian, St. Joseph, and Washington.
Softball – Class 3A Sectional 19: CGA, Jimtown, Marian, New Prairie, St. Joseph, and Washington.
Volleyball – Class 3A Sectional 19: CGA, Glenn, Jimtown, Marian, St. Joseph, and Washington.
The state soccer tournaments are divided into two classes. Culver Academies is assigned to the larger division.
Boys Soccer – Class 2A Sectional 7: CMA, Northwood, Plymouth, Warsaw, and Wawasee.
Girls Soccer – Class 2A Sectional 7: CGA, Northwood, Plymouth, Warsaw, and Wawasee.
The IHSAA makes the adjustments every two years based on enrollment and includes a success factor in tournament play that may bump some teams into a higher class. Tennis, swimming and diving, golf, track and field, cross country, and wrestling are one-class sports. Hockey and lacrosse are not governed by the IHSAA.
