Culver will be sending two hockey teams to Pittsburgh for the Toyota-USA Hockey Tier I Youth National Championships April 6-10.
The CMA U-16 team won its division at the MidAm Championships in Columbus, Ohio, over the weekend and the Prep team has been selected for an at-large spot in the U-18 division after dropping a 3-2 decision to the Ohio Bluejackets in the finals.
This is the fourth straight year Prep has made it to nationals and the second straight year for U-16. Prep finished as the national runner-up in 2016.
The games will be played at the UPMC Lemieux Sports Complex (8000 Cranberry Springs Drive) and the Robert Morris University Island Sports Center (7600 Grand Ave.).
Sixteen teams from across the country will play in four four-team pools in each division. Pool play will end on Saturday, April 8. Teams must finish first or second in their respective pools to advance to the playoffs on Sunday, April 9. The championship games will be Monday, April 10.
At the MidAm Tournament, Prep (23-13-4) advanced to the championship with wins over the Cleveland Barons (5-1), Gilmour Academy (3-0), and Esmark Stars (5-3).
U-16 (23-16-2) advanced through pool play with wins over the Pittsburgh Predators (8-0), Tri-State Spartans (6-1), and the Cleveland Barons (1-0, OT). The Eagles beat the Esmark Stars, 2-1, in the championship.
Prep is ranked fifth nationally in Tier I U-18 and U-16 is ranked 25th in its division. CGA finished its season at the U-19 women’s tournament at Gilmour Academy, finishing third. The MidAm tournaments cover teams in Indiana, Ohio, Kentucky, western Pennsylvania, and West Virginia.
