These students were honored as the November/December 2015 Athletes of the Month:
CGA: Beatrice Verrecchia
Through November and December, Beatrice Verrecchia ’17 (Florence, Italy) compiled an impressive 42-0 record, including tournament titles at competitions across Indiana, Illinois, and Wisconsin. The Women’s Foil captain, Verrecchia is currently ranked third in the USA Fencing Midwest region. Her success has enabled her to be an automatic qualifier for the 2016 Junior Olympics in Cleveland, Ohio, in February.
Coach Matt Cameron: “Bea put forth considerable time and effort during Culver’s fall strength and conditioning program. Her concerted work ethic in the pre-season has allowed her to consistently perform at a high level.”
CMA: Nolan Walker
Nolan Walker ’17 (Anchorage, Alaska) has excelled for the CMA Prep hockey team throughout the season. His 40 points leads the team, which stands at 14-6-2 and ranked 4th in country. Walker played a significant role in the Prep team’s success in November and December, which included victories over national powers Omaha, Shattuck St. Mary, St. Louis, plus the Hill Academy and St. Andrews from Canada. Equally impressive was his performance at the Lawrence Academy and Cushing Academy Tournaments. Walker was recognized as an all-tournament performer at both venues, including Tournament MVP at Lawrence.
Coach Steve Palmer: “Nolan is an exciting, gifted play-maker who is an offensive threat every time he is on the ice. He certainly has the ability to make those around him better.”
