Nies accepts coaching post

Jordan Nies, the former defensive coordinator for the Culver Prep Lacrosse team, has been named an assistant men’s lacrosse coach at the College of the Holy Cross in Worchester, Mass. NCAA Division I Holy Cross is a member of the Patriot League.

Nies spent the past two seasons as the defensive coordinator for the nationally ranked CMA prep team. The No. 2 Eagles allowed only 4.8 goals per game. He was also an assistant coach for the Varsity B hockey team. Before Culver, Nies was an assistant coach at Lycoming College in Williamsport, Pa., where he also was the recruiting coordinator.

A 2011 graduate of Bucknell, Nies was a defensive midfielder on the team that won the Patriot League tournament and was ranked as high as seventh during his senior season.  Read more here

Bachman named to U.S. Under-18 squad

Culver Military Prep Hockey player Karch Bachman ’16 (Wolcottville, Ind.) has been named to the U.S. Under-18 Select hockey team that will compete at the 2014 Ivan Hlinka Memorial Cup Aug. 11-16 in Breclav, Czech Republic, and Piestany, Slovakia.

Bachman is a 5-foot, 11-inch, 178-pound forward for the Eagles. He and the 21 other U.S.-select players will play an exhibition game against Slovakia on Aug. 9, followed by group contests against the Czech Republic (Aug. 11), Russia (Aug. 12), and Finland (Aug. 13). The semifinals and championship are scheduled for Aug. 15 and 16, respectively. Read more here

Curtis named to U.S. inline hockey team

Michael Curtis ’15 (Murfeesboro, Tenn.) has been named to the USA Junior Men’s Inline Hockey Team that is currently playing in the World Championships in Toulouse, France. The tournament started June 30 and runs through July 6.

The USA team is in a group with Canada, Switzerland, and Great Britain. The top eight teams coming out of pool play will move on to the quarterfinals. Curtis is a 5-foot-8, 150-pound forward for the Prep Hockey team. Read more here
