Two Culver Academies graduates ran in the NCAA National Cross Country Championship on Nov. 23. Alejandro Arroyo Yamin ’10, running for the Princeton Tigers, finished 73rd overall in the men’s 10K race and Waverly Neer ’11, representing Columbia, was 219th in the 6K women’s race.
Arroyo ran as part of the Princeton team , which finished 22nd at the race conducted on the LaVern Gibson course in Terre Haute, Ind.. It is the second straight year Arroyo has finished in the top 100 at the NCAA Division I championship. This is Neer’s second trip to the national championship race and her first after sitting out her sophomore year due to injury.
Arroyo finished the 10 kilometers in 31 minutes, 3.5 seconds. Neer completed her six kilometers in 22.16.3. Neer ran as an individual.
The Princeton men qualified through the Mid-Atlantic Regional, where Arroyo finished seventh overall with a time of 29:51. The race was conducted in Bethlehem, Pa. Neer qualified for the race by finishing fourth at the Northeast Regional in New York, where she ran a 20:01.8.
Neer and Arroyo ran on the same course where they competed as members of the Culver cross country teams. She won the Indiana High School Athletic Association state championship in 2010 while a senior at Culver Girls Academy
