Playing the Penquins Elite for title

Update: CMA lost to the Pittsburgh Penquins Elite, 3-0, in the championship game. Pittsburgh scored on a power play at the 14:43 mark of the first period. The second goal came with 8:18 gone in the third period. Pittsburgh’s third score was an empty netter with just 16 seconds remaining. 

The Culver Military Prep hockey team has reached the national championship game, which will be played today at 10:30 a.m. PDT/1:30 p.m. EDT in San Jose, Calif. The game will be played at Sharks Ice, located at 1500 S. 10th St. USA Hockey and, will be streaming all the games live and on-demand. An account is required. Click here for details.

Prep went undefeated in pool play, receiving one of the top four seeds in the eight-team playoffs on Sunday. The Eagles defeated the Tampa Scorpions, 7-4, in the quarterfinals and the Oakland Jr. Grizzlies, 4-1, in the semifinal game to advance to the championship against the Penquins Elite. This is CMA third straight trip to the National Championships, but the first time in the championship game.

  • CMA 5, Mid Fairfield Rangers 4 (OT/SO)
  • Quarterfinals: CMA 7, Tampa Scorpions 4
  • Semifinals: CMA 4, Oakland Jr. Grizzlies 1
  • Championship: CMA 0, Pittsburgh Penquins Elite 3

The U16 team played in Pool D of that Tier-1 division. The Eagles went 1-2 in their first trip to Nationals. It is also the first time Culver has had two teams in the championships.
