Inside Lacrosse has named CMA as the No. 1 team in the country and Lacrosse Magazine has placed the Eagles at No. 2 in the nation and No. 1 in the Midwest. USA Today named the prep lacrosse team the best in the country on Feb. 19.
Inside Lacrosse said of the Eagles: “The Midwestern powerhouse went 23-0 last season, including wins over nationally prominent programs like Gilman (Md.), Brother Rice (Mich.), Upper Arlington (Ohio) and Bishop Timon-St. Jude (N.Y.). Despite graduating seven players that went on to play Division I lacrosse.”
Lacrosse Magazine, the official publication of U.S. Lacrosse, wrote: “The Eagles have won 32 straight games and haven’t lost to a Midwest team since April 2012. With Denver-bound junior Ethan Walker fresh off a 107-goal season and Princeton-bound attacker Dawson McKenzie and Notre Dame-bound defender Jacob Kanak set to return, Culver will vie for a national No. 1 ranking that eluded it last year thanks to Boys’ Latin (Md.).”
The magazine adds that Culver “will have an opportunity to stir up the No. 1 conversation with games against Gonzaga (March 24 at Johns Hopkins) and Haverford (May 22 in Philadelphia).”
In its inaugural Super 25 preseason poll on Feb. 19, USA Today said: “Despite losing a star player from 2014 in current Johns Hopkins freshman Joel Tinney, Culver is again stacked. Culver is a team that attracts top players from across the continent, including Canadians who will again help the Eagles put together a high-powered offense as they take on the nation’s most grueling and ambitious schedule.”
The team is to start the 2015 season with a scrimmage against Indianapolis Cathedral on March 8, followed by games against Carmel on March 14 and Louisville Trinity on March 15.
The Eagles then take off for their annual spring break trip to Pennsylvania and Maryland. Games include Episcopal Academy in Newton Square, Pa.; Penn Charter in Philadelphia; Gonzaga at Johns Hopkins in Baltimore; St. Mary’s in Annapolis, Md.; and McDonough in Owing Mills, Md.
