Baumgartner breaks two records - again
February 27, 2018

When Inside Lacrosse released the season’s first Under Armour/IL national high school poll last week, the Culver Military Academy Prep team was ranked the No. 1 team in the country. Great news.

But what makes that even better is, at the time, the CMA Prep hockey team was also No. 1 in the USA Midget 18U Tier 1 division of My Hockey Rankings. The Eagles have periodically been ranked No. 1 throughout the season.

It is the first time that both teams have been ranked No. 1 in the nation at the same time.

Forrest Baumgartner finished his Culver career by setting more records at the state finals.

Four races, three records

Forrest Baumgartner ’18 (Argos, Indiana) swam four times at the state finals at the Indiana University Natatorium in Indianapolis Friday and Saturday. He set three Culver Military Academy records.

Baumgartner finished 10th overall in the 100 freestyle and 11th in the 50 freestyle. During the preliminary heats Friday evening, Baumgarter broke his own records in each event, swimming 46.75 seconds in the 100 and and 21.10 in the 50. In the finals on Saturday, he lowered his 100 time by .06 seconds to 46.69. He had set the records just a week before at the Warsaw Sectional.

During his Culver career, which ended Saturday, Baumgartner broke 11 school/pool records. His name will be on the Lowenstine Pool record board in the 200 individual medley, 100 butterfly, 100 freestyle, and the 50 freestyle. He will continue his swimming career at Eastern Illinois University.
