The Fuego Quartet, the gold medal winner in the Senior Wind Division of the 2017 Fischoff Competition, will be presenting a free, public concert at Culver Academies on Friday, Oct. 27. The concert will be at 7:30 p.m. in the Heritage Room of the Legion Memorial Building.
The award-winning chamber group is devoted to the performance of both standard and contemporary works written for the saxophone. Nicki Roman (soprano), Erik Elmgren (alto), Harrison Clarke (tenor), and Gabriel Piqué (baritone) formed Fuego Quartet in 2015 while graduate students at the Eastman School of Music.
Along with the Fischoff award, the quartet has won the brass, winds and percussion division at the Plowman Chamber Music Competition and taken second place at the MTNA Chamber Music Competition in the past year.
The Fischoff Competition is conducted at the University of Notre Dame. Culver Academies is a traditional stop for Fischoff winners as they participate in a tour of the Midwest during the fall. The quartet will also be conducting a workshop for instrumental music students during the class day.
