Culver Academies’ Friesian Mounted Color Guard will be marching down the streets of Indianapolis Saturday when the 500 Festival Parade steps off at 11:45 a.m. The color guard is scheduled to be the 25th unit in the parade.
The 500 Festival Parade is traditionally one of the largest parades in the nation, complete with helium balloons, floats, bands, celebrities, and all 33 drivers in Sunday’s race. The parade will begin at the American Legion Mall, travel south six blocks on Pennsylvania Street, turn west on Washington Street for one block, and travel north on Meridian Street for 12 blocks.
More than 300,000 people are expected to line the parade route. The parade will be broadcast live in central Indiana on WTHR (channel 13) and online on NBC Sports Gold, starting at noon. The parade will be shown on tape delay nationally at 4 p.m. on the NBC Sports Network (NBCSN).
