The reigning Indiana High School state champion in the 300-meter hurdles, Addison Coy (Barrington, Ill.), has officially committed to continue her career at Yale University. Coy becomes the third state track champion from Culver Girls Academy to commit to an Ivy League school.
She is also the 15th Culver student-athlete to officially commit during the fall signing period. The list also includes eight CMA lacrosse players, three CMA hockey players, one CGA hockey player, one CGA rower, and one CMA rower.
Last spring Coy joined Alex Banfich ’08 and Waverly Neer ’11 as Coach Mike Chastain’s three state champions. Banfich went to Princeton and Neer attended Columbia before transferring to Oregon for her junior year. They both won state crowns in the 1600 and 3200 meter runs.
She will be joined at Yale by CMA rower Justin Matei (Chicago), where he will join Bryan DeVries ’13. Older brother David DeVries ’11 also rowed at Yale. CGA rower Susan Westman (Orland Park, Ill.) will be attending Lehigh.
A total of five athletes signed their National Letters of Intent to attend the University of Notre Dame in nearby South Bend, Ind. Lacrosse players headed to ND include Ryan Hallenbeck (Indianapolis), Matt Schmidt (Worthington, Ohio), and Wheaton Jackoboice (Kansas City, Mo.). Hockey players Jackson MacNab (Indianapolis) and Nate Clurman (Boulder, Colo.) will join the Irish after stints in the juniors.
Other lacrosse players making commitments were Jackson Reid (Guelph, Ontario), Ohio State; Robert Anderson (Littleton, Colo.), Dartmouth; Griffin Harten (Holland, Mich.), the United States Military Academy; Liam Duff (Chicago), Delaware; and Reeves McKenney (Roanoke, Va.) to DIII power Denison.
CMA Prep hockey senior Nolan Walker (Anchorage, Alaska) will be attending St. Cloud State, where Nic Dowd ’08 attended. Dowd was one of the hat trick finalists for the Hobey Baker Award his senior year.
CGA Prep hockey player Allison Stathakis (Northville, Mich.) will be attending Chatham University, a DIII school in Pittsburgh.
