The Omer Quartet, winners of the 2013 Grand Prize and Gold Medal at the 40th annual Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition, will perform at Culver Academies on Friday, Oct. 18, at 7:30 p.m. The performance will be conducted in the Heritage Rom of the Legion Memorial Building. It is free and open to the public.
The string quartet will also be conducting sessions for students during the class day.
Praised by Cleveland Classical.com for being a “lean and resonant ensemble” with “committed and vivid” interpretations, the Omer Quartet is touring the Midwest through October. The quartet recently completed chamber music studies as the Apprentice String Quartet at the Cleveland Institute of Music, and was awarded the Dr. Bennett Levine Chamber Music Award.
The Omer Quartet also participated in the Chamber Music Workshop of the Perlman Music Program and the Banff Centre Chamber Music Residency, among other notable performances.
The Fischoff National Chamber Music Association, based in South Bend, Ind., offers the only national chamber music competition with both senior (ages 18-35) and junior divisions (ages 18 and younger). Since its founding, more than 6,000 musicians have participated, many of whom have gone on to distinguished careers in music performance and education.
