Aynes Lopez Espada is scheduled to appear on The Voice Mexico at 9 p.m., EDT (8 p.m. in Mexico City), Sunday, Sept. 14, Espada graduated from Culver Summer Schools & Camps in 2011, Culver Academies in 2013, and worked as a sailing instructor this summer.
Espada said while her appearance is scheduled, but nothing is certain. The first episode played on Sept. 7 in Mexico City. She had been notified earlier that had been selected for the show but could not make it public because of contractual obligations.
Part of the musical reality show includes fans voting for their favorite singers. One of the judges on this season’s show is Ricky Martin. For more on the program, click here.
Summer alumni who attended the Homecoming Post-Parade Rendezvous and Bonfire will remember that Espada and her musical partner Frank Henderson provided the entertainment. “When they asked if I would do it, I said, ‘Of course I’ll do it.’ I always feel good when I’m singing,” she said.
While she sings mostly for fun, Espada is always looking for opportunities to perform. While at Culver, she sang with the Jazz Band during an all-school meeting and with Quinlan Smith ’13, who accompanied her on the piano, during the 2012 Spring Parents Weekend.
Espada does have a YouTube Channel for her music videos, a Facebook fan page, and songs on SoundCloud. People can follow her on Instagram and Twitter with @AynesMx. She just posted a new video, a cover of John Legend’s All of Me.
From Culiacan, Mexico, Espada sings in English and Spanish. A sophomore at Universidad Iberoamericana in Mexico City, she does have the opportunity to get into the college’s studio, but not as much as she would like. Still, some of her songs have received air play on international television, she said.
