There is still time to register for one of the highlights of the Culver summer. The Lake Max Triathlon and Duathlon are set for Saturday, Aug. 11. Lake Maxinkuckee, the Culver Academies campus, and the Culver community provide the ideal setting for competition and a weekend of fun.
Along with the adult and children’s triathlons, a duathlon has been added. Participants will run 2 kilometers, bike for 11 miles, and then run 5 kilometers.
Lake Max is a USAT-certified triathlon. It begins and ends at the Naval Building on the Culver campus. The course includes:
- 400-meter swim in Lake Maxinkuckee. The course will take athletes around the Naval Pier.
- Bike 11 miles around Lake Maxinkuckee – The course begins and ends at the Naval Building, with riders traveling through downtown Culver.
- Run 5 Kilometers – From Naval Building transition point, runners will go west along the lake, through the Indian Trail to the Culver Beach Lodge, eventually running past Memorial Chapel to the finish line.
The distance is perfect for both experienced and novice racers. Teams are welcome.
Duathlon participants will run 2 kilometers, bike for 11 miles, and then run 5 kilometers.
There are three age groups for the kids triathlon. The 5-7 year-old group will swim 50 meters, bike one mile, and run a half-mile. The 8-10 age group will swim 75 meters, bike 2 miles, and run 1 mile. The 11-12 age group will swim 75 meters, bike 2 miles, and run 1 mile.
The kids triathlon is not a USAT-certified event. The entire race will be contained on campus.
This year’s event will again include a live band, a chef-prepared full-course meal, free massages, dry-fit shirts, and post-race energy drinks and beers after the race.
All proceeds collected are donated to the local humanitarian organizations. Early registration costs are $20 for the youth triathlon. The full triathlon is $65 for individuals and $95 for teams. The duathlon is $65 for individuals. Early registration ends at 11:59 p.m. on July 29.
