The Culver Day of Giving will officially begin at 12:01 a.m. (EST), Wednesday, April 18. The 24-hour event unites Culver alumni, parents, faculty, staff, students, and friends around the world to show their Culver Pride and raise funds for the Culver Annual Fund.
A new program this year, the Day of Giving is similar to single day events conducted by several colleges and universities across the country. The Day of Giving is designed to replace two Culver Fund appeals during the spring and summer and unite on One Day, as One Campus with One Mission to support our school, Megan MacNab Bekker ’87, Director of the Culver Fund, said.
Class volunteers, board members, and advancement staff will be leading the event as “Ambassadors” either off site or at the Naval Building Command Center. They will receive calls on the 505-GIVE-NOW line, make outgoing calls, and assist with the Thank-A-Giver festivities at the Dining Hall.
The important difference between Culver’s Day of Giving and other fundraising events is that the focus is on the number of donations received instead of the total amount donated. Donations can be made online, by phone, or by texting 56512. The goal of 1,550 gifts represents the 1,550 seats in Eppley Auditorium. Each gift “fills a seat” to support current students. Each gift, no matter the amount donated, helps unlock additional funds committed by generous Lead Donors. These lead Donor gifts currently total $500,000.
Eight milestones have been established that will be driven by the number of gifts received. Each milestone will unlock a dollar amount that will be added to the total funds raised, Bekker explained. These amounts will be revealed on April 18. The unlock levels are based on famous numbers in Culver’s past. They include:
- 45 Gifts – In recognition of the first 45 cadets enrolled in Culver Military Academy
- 100 Gifts – In recognition of the first 100 co-eds enrolled in Culver Academy for Girls
- 385 Gifts – Leadership positions for Summer Schools and Camps
- 430 Gifts – Leadership positions in Winter School
- 595 Gifts – Total Faculty and Staff members at Culver
- 828 Gifts – Student enrollment this school year in CMA and CGA
- 1,350 Gifts – Student enrollment in Woodcraft and Upper Schools this past summer
- 1,550 Gifts – One for every seat in Eppley Auditorium
During the day, faculty, staff and students will be working during mentee time and free period in the Lay Dining Hall. Students will be personalizing and signing Thank-A-Giver postcards for donors, a photo booth to record student messages of thanks and videotaping interviews will also be available so everyone can share their Culver story and pride.
People can contribute online early or write a check to the Culver Educational Foundation with the code “DOG18” written in the memo to be counted as part of the Day of Giving (DOG) and counted toward unlocking the Lead Donor funds. People with questions can call 877-743-4545.
