Six Culver Academies visual arts students claimed 13 awards at the 2015 Scholastic Art Awards in South Bend on Sunday (Feb. 8).

The South Bend Museum of Art and Friends of Scholastic Art Awards announced the regional award winners for northwestern Indiana and lower southwestern Michigan during an awards ceremony. The region covers 18 counties in the two states. More than 3,100 submissions were received from 1,400 students in the seventh through 12th grade.

Tianzi Zhou ’15 (Shanghai, China) received the Northern Indiana Artists Award, along with two gold keys, a silver key, and two honorable mentions for her work. Noah Trevino ’15 (Gary, Ind.) received four gold key awards for his submissions, Nathan VanDeVelde ’15 (Raleigh, N.C.) received a gold key; Rachel Duncan ’15 (Christiana, Tenn.), silver key; and Matthew Janney ’15 (Valparaiso, Ind.) and Chenyu Zhu ’15 (Shanghai, China) each received honorable mentions.

A total of 687 pieces of student works are on display in the Warner Gallery of the South Bend Museum of Art, 120 S. St. Joseph St., South Bend, through Feb. 28. Winners in certain classifications will be sent on to the national awards competition.
