The Culver Academies sailing team has accepted an invitation to participate in the 2014 Lawrence A. White Trophy, scheduled for Saturday and Sunday, Oct 18 -19, at the United States Coast Guard Academy.
This regatta is open to all Interscholastic Sailing Association schools using a lottery with spots reserved for each district. There are seven districts spread across the country. The Coast Guard also controls a set number of bids, which is where Culver’s invitation came through. This is Culver’s third trip to the event.
Representing Culver Academies at the Lawrence White will be the four captains Wyatt Clark (Chaska, Minn), Elaina Lambright (Mattawan, Mich.), Boyao Yu (Shanghai, China), James Jamieson (Culver), and skipper Muriel Weathers (Galveston, Texas). All five are seniors and first classmen. They will compete in two divisions against 21 other teams. The boats will be 420s and FJs as supplied by the Coast Guard Academy.
The Coast Guard’s New London, Conn., facility is exceptional, with great spectator and coaching views of the racing from the deck of Jacobs Rock Boat House. And, with fall foliage expected to be at its peak fall foliage, the view should be spectacular.
