The 2018 Live the Legacy Auction over Fall Parents Weekend enjoyed a sold-out crowd of more than 1,100 guests and officially broke the $1 million mark. The auction, which is run by the Culver Parents Association, finished with net proceeds topping $1.1 million.
Funds raised through the auction, which takes place every two years, support the Culver Fund – the lifeblood of Culver Academies’ and Culver Summer Schools & Camps’ academic programs, faculty, facilities, and scholarships.
The 2018 levels are up dramatically from the 2016 total of $940,000. In less than 30 minutes, auction guests at this year’s event committed a remarkable $365,000 for student scholarships during the Raise Your Paddle portion of the evening, up from $303,000 in 2016.
Additionally, sponsorship dollars moved past 2016’s record total with more than $457,000 received this year. Sales in both the silent and live auction increased significantly with a 43% jump in silent auction proceeds and a 50% jump in dollars secured through the live auction. The live auction featured many interesting items, including a custom pontoon boat ($39,000); a luxury suite at a Chicago Cubs game ($11,000); and trips to dream destinations around the world, from Alaska ($16,000) to Mexico ($13,000) to China ($24,000). One of most sought-after items of the evening was a customized Culver golf cart which sold for $20,000.
