Several Culver teams and athletes will be participating in their respective state tournaments and one cadet will be rowing at the national level over the next week.
The CMA golf team will begin sectional play on Friday at the Rozella Ford Golf Club, 1700 Rozella Road, Warsaw. The team will be vying for one of the top three spots out of a 12-team field in order to advance to the regional. The top three individual players not associated with advancing teams also move on to the regional. CMA will tee off at 8 a.m.
CMA Varsity Lacrosse
The Culver Military Varsity lacrosse team will play Indianapolis Cathedral in the second game of the state semifinals Friday at 8 p.m. In the first game, Carmel will play Hamilton Southeastern at 6 p.m. The winners will square off at 8 p.m. Saturday for the state championship.
CMA (14-3) is ranked third and Cathedral (18-3) is second. Carmel (16-6) is ranked first and HSE (17-3) is fourth. All three games will be played at Fishers High School, 13000 Promise Road, Fishers.
CGA/CMA Track & Field
The CGA and CMA track & field teams will be in action at the state meet at Indiana University, Bloomington, Friday and Saturday. The girls will be running on Friday and the boys meet will be Saturday.
Friday evening, Addison Coy ’17 (Barrington, Ill.) will run in the third heat of the girls 300-meter low hurdles. Coy has the state’s fastest seed time heading into the meet at 43.93 seconds. The girls meet will begin at 3 p.m. with the field events. The 300 hurdles is scheduled for 7:20 p.m.
Saturday, the CMA 4×800-meter relay team will be the first to see action, with Hallin Burgan ’17 (Mount Vernon, Ill.), Zach Dunlap ’17 (Barrington Hills, Ill.), Callaway Bird ’18 (Sturgis, Mich.), and Shane Pursch ’18 (Tippecanoe, Ind.) scheduled to run with Alex Krupp ’16 and Brian Krupp ’17 (Mishawaka, Ind.) as alternates. The Eagles’ seed time for the relay is 8:06.57. The relay is scheduled to start at 4:15 p.m. and CMA is in the first heat. Field events begin at 3 p.m.
Dunlap will then run in the 1600, scheduled to 6:35 p.m. His seed time is 4:26.72. Pursch will run in the first heat of the 800. His seed time is 1:57.88. The 800 is scheduled to start at 7:45 p.m.
Joe Sterner ’16 (St. Charles, Ill.) qualified for the Youth National Championships in single sculls after finishing third at the Midwest Junior Rowing Championship in Cincinnati on May 22. Sterner, who will row for the University of California-Berkley in the fall, qualified during a very windy final with a time of 8 minutes, 27.836 seconds after placing first in the time trial with a 6:59.6.
The Youth National Championships are scheduled for June 10-12 at the Princeton National Rowing Association at Mercer County Park in West Windsor, N.J.
