The Culver Military Academy tennis team won its 10th regional championship in school history Wednesday with a 4-1 victory over Plymouth. CMA hosted the tournament at the Gable Tennis Center.
Culver will now face Crown Point, winner of the Munster Regional, Saturday. The Culver Semi-State will begin at 10 a.m. with CMA (12-7) and Crown Point (19-2) on the front courts and Carmel (18-0) facing off against Penn (23-0) on the backcourts. The respective winners will advance to the state tournament in Indianapolis the following week. There is a $5 admission charge for the semi-state.
The Eagles’ points came from Sam Concannon ’16, Chris Bilicic ’16, and Josh Thompkins ’16 in the three singles matches and Evan Dillon ’16 and Ian Smith ’18 in the two doubles match. William Bilicic ’16 and Brian Tao ’16 dropped a three-set match at one doubles. The loss was the first team point given up by the Eagles’ during the four-match tournament run.
CMA is the only team to beat Plymouth this season. The Pilgrims finished their season at 17-2.
