Three former Culver Military Academy rugby players helped Furman University break the University of North Carolina – Wilmington’s three-year grip on the Southern Rugby Conference title recently. Michael Anthony ’14, Turner Morsches ’11, and Lucas Ward ’12 helped the Paladins to a 23-17 win over the Seahawks on Nov. 2.

Playing the conference tournament at University of North Carolina – Charlotte, Furman coasted to the final after racing by East Carolina University 63-3. UNC-W beat Appalachian State in overtime, 22-17.

Furman’s victory also halted UNC-W’s 24-game Southern Rugby Conference win streak and handed the Seahawks their first-ever SRC 15s loss. With the weekend wins, Furman (8-1) advances the Division II regional play Nov. 22-23 to be held at James Madison University.
