Two members of the Culver Military football team were named Class 4A All-State honorable mentions by The Associated Press and head coach Andy Dorrel was named the District 2 Coach of the Year by the Indiana Football Coaches Association.
First classman Brian Loudermilk was an honorable mention as a defensive back and third classman Amari Curtis was honorable mention as an offensive lineman. Both players were also recognized by the Indiana Football Coaches Association earlier. Dorrel’s honor sets him up as one of the north coaches for the Indiana all star game in July.
The Eagles finished the season with a 10-2 record. It was the first time the team has won 10 games since 1903.
Rugby coach Darrell Knowlton is spending the week assisting at the High School All American Rugby Camp in Arizona. This is Knowlton’s fifth year at the camp, helping to coordinate the movements of 180 players and 30 coaches over the week. The U.S. U19 team will be playing a practice match against Rugby Canada, a first for the two groups.
Coming this spring, the Culver Girls Academy rugby club will take to the pitch for the first time.
Playing for Slovakia
Culver Military U16 hockey defenseman Victor Hatina skated for the Slovakian U17 team during the Four Nations Cup in Russia. The tournament was played December 11-17. Hatina, from Bratislava, Slovakia, has also played on the Slovakian U16 team.
