The Culver Military Academy tennis team won its 11th regional championship in school history Wednesday with a 3-2 victory over Plymouth. CMA hosted the tournament at the Gable Tennis Center.
This is the second straight regional crown, and third overall, for this senior class.
CMA will face Munster in the Culver Semi-State Saturday. Two matches be played at noon with CMA (16-2) and Munster (20-1) on the front courts and Carmel (16-1) facing off against South Bend St. Joseph (19-1) on the back courts. The respective winners will advance to the state tournament in Indianapolis the following week. There is a $5 admission charge for the semi-state.
The Eagles’ winning points came from Sam Concannon ’16, Chris Bilicic ’16, and Josh Thompkins ’16 in the three singles matches. The number one doubles team of William Bilicic ’16 and Brian Tao ’16 dropped a three-set match, as did number two doubles partners Evan Dillon ’16 and Ean Anderson ’16. It was the first two points given up by the Eagles’ during the four-match sectional and regional tournament run.
