The Culver Girls Academy swim and dive team qualified five people for the next round and set three school records on its way to a second place finish at the Warsaw sectional Saturday.
The winners of each event advance, with diver Isabelle Ahlenius ’20 heading to the Mishawaka diving regional and swimmers Autumn Baumgartner ’21, Cecilia Miller ’18, Kylie Dehner ’20, and Elizabeth Tice ’19 moving directly to the state meet preliminaries on Friday.
Ahlenius set a new 11-dive record, scoring 406.05. That broke the 404.85 mark set in 2004 by Rachel Barone. The sophomore now owns both the school and pool records in diving.
Baumgartner set a record in the 100 freestyle with a time of 51.91, which broke the 1993 mark of 52.30 set by Beth Zeman Stohlmann ’94.
She was also a part of the winning 400 freestyle relay team with Miller, Dehner, and Tice. Their time of 3:39.73 broke the 3:44.01 record set in 2012 by Eberle Miller ’14, Rory Byrne ’14, Jaclyn Schutjer ’15, and Lauren Robinson ’13.
Baumgartner also qualified in the 100 backstroke, taking first with a time of 59.15, which is less than a second off Stohlmann’s record set in 1992.
The Mishawaka diving regional will be conducted Tuesday and the state swimming meet begins Friday at the Indiana University Natatorium in Indianapolis.
