The Culver Girls Academy golf team captured the LaPorte Sectional by an impressive 33-stroke victory margin on Friday. The tournament was played at the par-72 Beechwood Golf Club.
The Eagles finished with a combined score of 335 (lowest four scores count). Reese Wilson ’21 (Chicago) shot a two-above-par 74 to finish second individually. Kara Blair of New Prairie was the medalist with a 71.
Amanda Kurteff ’19 (Plainfield, Illinois) shot an 83, followed by Jiayi Wang ’20 (Beijing, China) and Masako Hatano ’21 (Shanghai, China) with 89 each, and Katie Shin ’21 (West Lafayette, Indiana) with a 92.
LaPorte finished in second with a 368, followed by Michigan City at 399. A total of nine teams played at Beechwood. The girls will now advance to the Lafayette Jefferson Regional on Saturday. They will play at the Battle Ground Golf Club, starting at 11 a.m. (EDT).
The top three teams and the top five individuals not connected to an advancing team will move on to the state finals at the Prairie View Golf Club in Carmel. The state tournament will run Friday, Sept. 29, and Saturday, Sept. 30.
