It is a big week for the Culver Military Academy lacrosse program.
On Tuesday, the final Nike/US Lacrosse high school poll ranked the Eagles prep team as the best in the nation. On Thursday, two CMA lacrosse alumni will showcase their talents when the Major League Lacrosse All-Stars play the USA men’s team. And, Saturday, a 2018 graduate will play in the Under Armour All-America Game. Both games will be carried on one of the ESPN channels.
The Eagles finished the season 24-2, losing both times to Canadian powerhouse Hill Academy. The Eagles beat Hill in overtime the first time they played. Lacrosse Magazine cited Culver’s high-profile wins during the season for its No. 1 status. CMA finished fourth in the Under Armour/Inside Lacrosse poll.
On Thursday, Zach Currier ’13 and Joel Tinney ’14 will be playing for the MLL All-Stars when they take on Team USA in the final tune-up game before the FIL World Championships. Currier currently plays for the Denver Outlaws and Tinney was the fourth overall pick in the 2018 MLL draft by the New York Lizards.
The game will be played at Harvard Stadium, Allston, Massachusetts. Game time is 7 p.m. and will be broadcast on either ESPN2 or ESPNEWS.
Forty-six countries will be represented at the World Championships in Netanya, Israel from July 12-22. Currier will be playing for defending champion Canada. Tinney just missed the final cut for the 23-man Canadian national team roster.
On Saturday, Alex Simmons ’18 (above) will be playing in the Under Armour All-America Game. The game will be played at Johns Hopkins University’s Homewood Field. The game is scheduled to begin at 8 p.m. and will be televised live on ESPNU.
Simmons is listed as an attack/middie for the North squad. He will be joining Ethan Walker ’16 at the University of Denver in the fall. Simmons is also adding his name to the list of UA All-Americans, including Currier, Tinney, Walker, Matt Neufeldt ’14, Matt Schmidt ’17, and Jackson Reid ’17.
